Manchester-based Dr. Kabir Malhotra is late at arriving at a restaurant to meet his wife, Sia. When she is not there he naturally assumes that she is annoyed with him. The film is set in early 11th century China during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty. Resminya, misi NASA yang berangkat ke bulan berakhir saat mereka menerbangkan Apollo 17 pada tanggal 17 Desember 1972. Setelah itu Amerika Serikat memutuskan untuk mengakhiri eksplorasi bulan. Tanpa sepengetahuan publik, NASA sebenarnya meluncurkan satu misi lagi ke bulan namun misi itu berakhir tragis dan membuat pemerintah terpaksa menganggap misi ini tak pernah ada.

Berselang satu tahun dari peluncuran Apollo 17, NASA sebenarnya mengirim dua orang astronot mereka dengan menggunakan pesawat Apollo 18. Tempat yang jadi tujuan pun tetap: Bulan. Sayangnya, tak seperti misi-misi sebelumnya, misi NASA kali ini tak bisa dianggap sukses. Ada sesuatu yang membuat misi ini berakhir berantakan dan terpaksa NASA harus menutup-nutupi keberadaan misi ini. Apollo 18 memang berhasil mendarat di bulan. Sayangnya, saat itu para astronot ini menemukan bahwa mereka bukanlah satu-satunya makhluk hidup di satelit bumi ini.
